It is a rose cut gemstone, so it is faceted across the top and flat on the back. I set it over highly polished sterling silver so that light can travel through the stone, reflect off the bright silver underneath and come back through. As the ring moves, the stone really lights up with a beautiful glow and sparkle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe silver work in this ring is completely organic and came from a technique I was experimenting with. I created the back plate by laying down different pieces of sterling silver and carefully melting them together. There is something very serendipitous about the process because I cannot completely control how the silver will move as it melts or exactly where it will join. I have to pull the flame away at just the right moment, and out of the many times I experimented with this technique, only a few pieces came out in a way that I wanted to use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is something I could never exactly duplicate. The melted silver created a thick, dimensional and sculptural shape that reminded me a little bit of coral. I continued working into the surface with several different hammers, adding different textures in different areas while keeping that original organic shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI carried that sculptural feeling into the band as well. One side begins with a spiral that transitions into a double band, with the two bands opening farther apart on the opposite side. It gives the entire ring a very organic and unusual shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven though this is a substantial ring with a 25 mm wide top, it feels really comfortable on the finger. You get all of that width and dimension across the top while the band becomes much narrower underneath, so it hugs the finger without having the feel of a traditional wide band ring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love how this one came together.
