blue-topaz-statement-ring
Blue Apatite Statement Ring

This one of a kind blue apatite statement ring combines a vibrant rose cut gemstone with sculptural oxidized Argentium sterling silver and an organic double band.

• Materials: Blue apatite and solid Argentium sterling silver
• Stone: 2 carat rose cut blue apatite
• Ring size: 10
• Ring top: Approx. 32 mm wide
• Band: Sculptural double sterling silver band
• Setting: Handmade sterling silver bezel with polished silver beneath the stone
• Texture: Hand hammered
• Finish: Oxidized and polished
• One of a kind + ready to ship

This blue apatite has such a beautiful vibrant color. I created a bezel setting for the rose cut stone and placed it over highly polished sterling silver. Light can travel through the gemstone, reflect off the bright silver underneath and come back through the stone. As you move the ring around, that reflected light gives the apatite a beautiful glow and sparkle.

The base of this ring started as a little silver sculpture created by laying out different pieces of sterling silver and carefully melting them together. It is a very serendipitous process because I cannot completely control how the silver will move and join as it melts, and not every attempt becomes something I want to use. This particular piece came out beautifully. It was large enough to really show off the organic openwork and thick, dimensional areas of silver, so I knew I wanted to turn it into a statement ring.

I added hammered texture to the silver along with the apatite and several melted silver balls. I also oxidized the finished ring and polished the raised areas again. The darker oxidation settles into the recessed areas and really brings out the openwork, hammer marks and all of the dimensional details in the silver.

The double band is also a little unusual. On one side, the two bands spread apart with approximately 10 mm of open space between them, creating a wide shape that really hugs the finger. As the bands move around the back of the ring, they come together and remain close on the opposite side. This gives the ring an asymmetrical shape and allows the sculptural top to sit in a really interesting way on the hand.

Even though this is definitely a statement ring, I put a lot of thought into making it comfortable. The way the double band changes from wide to narrow allows the ring to hug the finger without feeling like a traditional wide band. Depending on how you position it, the sculptural top can also extend farther down the finger, creating a beautiful elongated look.

I love the presence of this one. The silver is thick and substantial, the blue apatite really stands out against the oxidized finish, and the entire ring has an organic shape that could never be duplicated exactly. It makes a statement, but it is still versatile enough to dress up or down and simply enjoy wearing.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0726/0641/7210/files/Handmade-Sterling-Silver-Ring_bc017d8e-b77d-4f3c-bb2f-05ff6d54be74.jpg?v=1786737715
