There is plenty of blue flash, but as it moves you can also see warmer golden tones coming through. I designed the setting so part of the stone has bright polished silver behind it while another area is open. The moonstone changes depending on the angle and where the light is coming from, and I love how the setting lets you see that color in different ways.

The sculptural silver in this ring actually happened somewhat by accident. I was melting down sterling silver scraps when I noticed that the pieces had started to melt together on my block in a really interesting way. I stopped what I was doing because I felt like there was something there. I began hammering, shaping and adding to that original piece of melted silver until it became the foundation for this ring.

This was actually the piece that inspired me to keep experimenting with this technique. The process is very serendipitous because I cannot completely control how the silver melts together. I tried to recreate it many times afterward, and every piece came out completely different. This particular one has beautiful organic areas of thinner lines and heavier silver that remind me a little of tree branches or coral without really being anything literal.

I curved the sculptural silver so that it hugs the finger and paired it with a substantial double band. The band follows the organic shape of the top and then gently becomes narrower toward the back. I also added melted silver balls throughout the design for a little more movement and dimension.

I especially love how this ring sits on the hand. The moonstone extends farther down the finger than a traditional ring top, which gives the design an elongated look while the curved silver and narrower back make it very comfortable to wear.

I polished the silver first, then oxidized it and polished the raised areas again. The darker oxidation remains in the recessed areas and brings out all of those organic shapes and textures, while the raised silver has a beautiful bright shine. I love that contrast with rainbow moonstone, especially when the blue and golden flashes appear as the ring moves.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0726/0641/7210/files/Handmade-Sterling-Silver-Ring-3_c41facee-c12c-4318-9ff7-0cb0e2b6fd1c.jpg?v=1786738050
