From the Bench: A New Collection of One of a Kind Botanical Jewelry

After a busy few months restocking the shop after the holiday season, it felt really good to slow down and make space for something a little more creative. When you run a two-person handmade jewelry business (it’s just Paul and me!), it's easy to get caught up in production mode — always trying to keep your bestsellers in stock.

But over the last several weeks, I carved out time to just play. I pulled out the silver scrap, fired up the torch, and started making all the tiny botanical components I love — leaves, petals, stems, vines.

What the process looks like behind the scenes:

For me, it always starts with the components. I’ll spend days at the bench shaping little pieces — hammering melted silver into soft leaf forms, shaping wire into organic curves, and engraving flower sketches into silver sheet with our laser engraver.

Once I have a good pile of tiny parts, I start playing. I’ll arrange and rearrange pieces for hours (sometimes days), trying different combinations until one jumps out at me and just feels right. It’s never planned — it’s about letting the materials guide the way.

This collection is rooted in exploration.

I begin by building the structure, creating gemstone settings, forming silver circles or bases to anchor the design and give an overall form.  Next, everything gets soldered together, winding on the little components and tweaking things until they're just right. It’s kind of like building a mini sculpture — one little leaf at a time.

Once a piece is assembled, I polish it, oxidize it to bring out contrast, and then re-polish carefully so the recessed areas stay dark. This final step adds depth and really brings out the dimension and detail in the piece.

Each pendant is one of a kind — made with solid sterling silver and natural gemstones like iolite, amethyst, moonstone, and dendritic agate. Some are more simple, others bold and sculptural. All of them were made slowly, thoughtfully, and with a lot of love!

I’m so excited to finally share them with you.

They’re available now — you can view the full collection of one of a kind handmade sterling silver jewelry on the site.  Each item has lots of pictures and a video so you can see them from every angle.   Here's a link to see what's new:  https://www.lizardijewelry.com/collections/view-all
