Turquoise and Jade Dangle Earrings

These one of a kind Kingman turquoise earrings pair an unusual matched set of blue green and creamy neutral turquoise with faceted Guatemalan jade.

I held onto this matched pair of Kingman turquoise for years before finally deciding what I wanted to make with them. I originally considered separating the stones into two necklaces, but the fact that they are such a beautifully matched pair ultimately made me want to keep them together as earrings.

What I especially love is the unusual natural coloring. Rather than being solid turquoise blue, the stones have soft creamy gray and neutral areas with vibrant blue green turquoise running through them. Because they are a matched pair, that distinctive pattern appears in both stones and gives the earrings such a cool balance.

Below each turquoise I added a natural Guatemalan jade drop in a pale blue green color. Guatemalan jade can naturally occur in beautiful blue and green blue tones, and I love how the color of these stones picks up the turquoise above them. The jade is checkerboard faceted, which creates little flashes of sparkle as the earrings move and gives a beautiful contrast to the smooth polished turquoise.

I created substantial sterling silver settings for the turquoise and kept the rest of the design simple so these special stones could remain the focus. I also added oxidation around the turquoise settings for a little extra contrast and finished the earrings with secure sterling silver lever backs.

After holding onto this matched pair of turquoise for so long, I am really happy that I finally kept them together. The combination of the unusual natural patterning, smooth turquoise and sparkling blue green jade makes this a truly special one of a kind pair.
